History ![]() ![]() Putera Capital Berhad ("PCB") was incorporated as Kamunting Industries Berhad ("KIB") on 22 June 1972. Principally an investment holding company, KIB acquired 100% equity in Kamunting Spinning Industries Sdn Bhd ("KSI") and Kamunting Textile Industries Sdn Bhd ("KTI") on 31 November 1973. With the acquisition, KIB Group became an intergrated textile manufacturing concern. The main activity of KSI was the manufacture of cotton, polyester cotton and other blended yarns. The operation of KSI has ceased since April 2003 due to shift in PCB Group's approach in meeting its yarn requirement. KTI on the other hand remains a manufacturer of cotton, polyester cotton and yarn dyed wooven fabrics
Business ActivitiesTextile manufacturing has been the core business of PCB Group since its inception. Under the backdrop of declining margins, coupled with stiff competitions from low cost producing countries such as China and Indonesia, textile manufacturing proved to be a difficult industry over the last decade. As a result, the Group's textile manufacturing activities have been scaled down. As mentioned earlier, the Group has also stopped producing its own yarns as it is cheaper to outsource this requirement. This has led to the closure of spinning activities under KSI. The Group's strategy in textile operations has shifted towards more downstream products. Towards this end, PCB Group is actively pursuing opportunities in supplying finished fabrics to large users especially Government agancies that use iniforms for their staff force. The difficult environment in textile manufacturing has prompted PCB to widen its sources of revenue by looking into other activities. One of the areas that the group has decided to venture into is construction. PCB Group marked its entry into the industry by winning the award for two projects in the year 2001. These projects are the design and construction of accomodation facilities for 6,0000 students at Skudai Campus of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and Phase 1 of the Tuanku Jaafar Power Plant Rehabilitation in Port Dickson. To strengthten its position in construction industry, PCB Group is actively bidding for new projects in both private and public sectors. The Group's strategy is to form partnetships and alliances with other players in the industry in order to enhance chances for success in securing contracts. The Group is currently negotiating on a number of contracts that would propel the Group towards its aim of becoming a major player in the industry. Presently, manufacturing and construction related activities form the core business of the PCB Group. Another area of business presently beeing developed is property development. In this regards, PCB is working towards a major undertaking in property development involving a choice location in Melaka. |
